A song in its early form for the new year, written on the 29th December 2022. This feels like a song I've been trying to write for months, but it suddenly appeared pretty fully formed, like it'd been sat in my brain waiting for the right moment. I went for a walk by the river and wrote the poem/lyrics, then got home improvised the piano and melody in one go. It's the absolute purest joy to follow an instinct when it appears and not think too hard about where it will go, I love making things this way, and it seemed appropriate to follow that impulse and share it in its early form. (who knows where the song might go from here)
It's a song about seeing and touching what is tangible and the difficulty of representing and expressing what isn't. I've been obsessed with several paintings that attempt to do this lately, the attempt to paint religious scenes, express desire, show movement and textural surfaces. You can't paint wind, only its effects. It's about getting lost in art and a bunch of other things too I imagine.
